A Call to Rhetorical Action

1)      How might technology today help us build a new, inclusive social norm?
Technology can aid us by assisting humans with challenges they face. Technology can help us fill in the gaps where we as humans cannot accomplish alone.

2)      In what ways does the media ignore or falsify our movements and actions?
The media ignores our movements our action by using technology or celebrities to distract the public. Technology is used by allowing people to distract themselves with entertainment found on the internet. Celebrities’ problems are announced more to the public then real-world problems such as war.

3)      How can technology help us overcome the five contemporary challenges activists face?
1.       Creating decentered movements
2.       Developing new forms of leadership
3.       Learning to communicate across contexts
4.       Understanding cultural differences
5.       Dealing with the media juggernaut

Technology can help us overcome the five contemporary challenges by improving on things humans lack. One of the things humans lack is leadership. Leadership can be taught to humans by simple classes by instructors. Technology can help us in this aspect by helping us figure out easier ways to teach people leadership skills. Technology can also make communication between people. If communication between people improves, it can help us with most of our challenges. Better communication can help us with dealing with people with different cultural backgrounds. Many people with different cultural backgrounds seek the same issues to be resolved. Communication can also help unite people so they can defeat the media. The media tries to stop humans facing real problems, therefore if technology advances it will be easier for real world problems to be shared with people.

  1. Hey Chris! Great thoughts on technology and its ability to lead society and improve the interaction between people. However, I sort of disagree with your statements regarding technology when you state its ability to help us face and overcome challenges due to the fact that I feel its a platform for social media. Social media tends to serve as a outlet for navigating through different cultures of people in hopes of finding a common ground to resolve social and political issues.

  2. Chris! I agree that technology can help people where they lack. I have a lot experience with technology helping me out whenever I lack knowledge of a certain subject. I also agree that technology can help us communicate to people with different cultural backgrounds. When I volunteered at a hospital I had to hold up an Ipad to a foreigner's face and some guy on face time translated what the patient said to the doctor and what the doctor said to the patient. It was crazy!

  3. Communication is definitely the key to defeating the media. If we were to all stand together and share what the media doesn't the world would be a more united place. The media brainwashes us to think what they're talking is the most important thing happening right now. They lack communicating with whats actually important to the people. Really cool post Chris!

  4. Hey Chris. I also think that the news outlets make us think in a certain way by the way that they choose to ignore the true problems of the world while covering it with celebrity gossip. I believe that everyone should have a sense of self-leadership for their own benefit. It is beneficial for a person to have an individual mindset of leadership so that they will not always imitate others action and instead create their own. I think that technology can definitely help us accomplish this.
